7th Sunday After Pentecost – Devotional
Let us hold strong to the confession of our hope, never wavering, since the One who promised it to us is faithful. Let us consider how to inspire each other to greater love and to righteous deeds, not forgetting to gather as a community, as some have forgotten, but encouraging each other, especially as the day of His return approaches. Hebrews 10:23-25
“It’s official! I am coming back to 5th Ave. UMC for the 6th year!”
Bishop Jung says it’s official, so it’s all official. I humbly and enthusiastically continue my ministry with the folks at 5th Ave. UMC in West Bend, Wisconsin. I’m honored to serve this delightful congregation for the upcoming July 2021-June 2022 year. God is On the Move on the Ave., 5th Ave.!
I’m using this official announcement as an opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the 5th Ave. UMC family and friends and thank each of you for your support and love through a tough and challenging, yet inspirational and prayerful year and a half. This is a simple and respectful way to show our gratitude to this blessed congregation for our return to serve as your Pastor-Servant Leaders.
Our United Methodist process of matching pastors and congregations is a “send” process, whereby pastors are sent (appointed) to a congregation by the Bishop and Cabinet (the Conference Superintendents). The appointment of pastors and churches is based upon the missional needs of the church and the mission field to where they are sent.
Around the world, the Church works to tackle poverty and injustice, motivated by God’s love for humanity. Micah, explains what God requires of his followers: ‘to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly…’
A key component of our clergy – laity relationship is prayer. Prayer is huge. I ask for your prayers and encouragement each day, keeping in mind the particular need or challenge I may be facing.
I thank God for the way He is moving our entire church in Biblical faithfulness and mutual care.
I passionately love you all very much, and I am excited about what the Lord will continue to do at 5th Ave. UMC through messy sinners like you and me.
With love, your servants in the ministry of Christ,
Pastor Clarissa and Bro. Martin
