First Sunday of Advent

by Clarissa Martinelli on November 28, 2021

Good morning Siblings of Christ,

Welcome!

Beginning November 28, 2021, we will begin an Advent Sermon Series using the book, "The Heart That Grew Three Sizes, Finding Faith in the Story of the Grinch" by UMC pastor and author Matt Rawle.

In this study, we will be examining the Dr. Seuss classic, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" and learning from the Grinch’s journey that Christmas doesn't come from a store, but means a little bit more! Rediscover the gift of Advent that comes without packages, ribbons and bows.

Why did the Grinch hate Christmas? No one really knows; we just know that he did.  In this advent study, we will explore some faith themes in this Christmas classic! As we travel through these four weeks of Advent, we will ponder - how did the Grinch’s heart grow three sizes come Christmas morning?  How did Christmas save the Grinch? Could it be that the very thing we hate is the one thing that changes our lives?

Come join us as this pop culture classic confirms God’s story within it. Advent season reminds us that all things were made through Christ (John 1:3) and through Christ all things were reconciled to God. (Colossians 1:20). Put another way –  all Creation (person or thing) contains a spark of the divine.

Come see God in the midst of culture - in the Scriptures, hymns, worship icons, a novel, classic rock, or buried in the heart of a Grinch that starts off two sizes too small. Come! All are welcome!
