7th Sunday after Easter

Good morning people of God,

“Good trouble” is a phrase that has grown in the consciousness of the nation. Representative John Lewis, a towering figure for civil rights, coined the phrase; and more than that, he lived it.
Our text for this week says there are wrongs that need righting. It says there are systems, there are presumptions and prejudices, there are oppressive patterns and economic cycles that are
impossible to break out of without help. How will we disturb the city today Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church (FAUMC)?

Change is all around us, even in the church. And change is never easy. We have to reimagine a whole new direction for the beginnings of the church. It has to do with who is considered worthy
to include and who should be avoided. Peter pushed the church to go further than they were comfortable going. Wait, no, it wasn’t Peter. The Holy Spirit pushed the church (FAUMC) to go further
than they were comfortable. And that has been the church’s story from then on.

What challenges face our community that need a word or a presence from the faith community that is FAUMC? What actions or statements might be made to show where we’re standing and
whom we are standing with in this complicated and difficult environment? Now is the time to decide FAUMC how we’re going to invite the West Bend community to make the commitment to
 become witnesses for the kin-dom.

Behind this approach of witnessing is the understanding that a life of faith is a life of fruitfulness. Even as we are in the business of changing the world, we ourselves are being transformed too.
And wherever we are on the discipleship journey, we can make an impact; we can be witnesses for the kin-dom of God. Worship issues a challenge to live out our faith daily. It is where we make
our promise to our God, that we will praise and we will follow Him; we will represent the faith; we will be witnesses.

A reminder: worship doesn’t begin and end in the sanctuary. It is supposed to be carried out in our living and acting in our communities that we live in and serve. Our neighborhoods should be
better because we are in them. What impact are you as a disciple of Christ having on your church, family and local community? If you can identify your impact, then lift it up and celebrate it today!
If you can’t, then ask God to lead you in ways that “help you share your gifts and talents in making “Good trouble” as you witness to the glory of God.

Welcome people of God - “We are witnesses!”
