At Christmas, God came into our ordinary world in the form of a child, and still today God is at work through the ordinary stuff of life, if we train our eyes to see.
This Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany seasons, we will gleam from the book, “Advent in Plain Sight” by Jill J. Duffield to draw our attention to ten ordinary objects that appear in the biblical narratives of messianic prophesy and incarnation; objects that are encountered in our everyday lives.
During these holy seasons, the hope is that by connecting everyday objects with biblical text, pilgrims will witness heaven here on earth and be reminded that God still dwells among us, even in the most ordinary places and things.
The first object is:  Gates. Our Scripture Reading is Matthew 24:29-35.
When Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
In this Scripture, Christ compares the signs He has described to the budding leaves of a fig tree in the spring. People in that region would have learned by experience that tender branches and new leaves mean summer is near. Jesus wants His followers to understand that when the things He has described as signs of His return begin to happen, His arrival will also be nearby.
Come during this eager waiting season covered with a frenzy of busyness as we intentionally refocus our sight on the holy in our midst. Come as we seek to see God in all things, right in plain sight.
