Dear Brothers and Sisters of Fifth Avenue UMC,
I hope this email finds you well in the changing season. The weather is getting cold!
Last week, the Winter Preparation Event took place helping the greater community and our neighbors in need. FAUMC collaborated with Casa Guadalupe Multicultural Education Center. Several individuals, families, refugees and the homeless received coats, boots, clothing, tents, blankets and non-perishable food items. People stated they were grateful this was being done for the community. To all the volunteers that helped with this event, I thank you for all of your support!
This week starts a new series, “Come to the Table” for five weeks. The theme of this week revolves around self-denial in following Jesus as disciples. It is one of the most profound themes in Christianity. All human beings are inherently self-centered, a trait that we inherit from birth. How does Jesus enable us to overcome this self-centeredness? His love, grace, and invitation to his table provide the means to do so, and this is already accomplished through his crucifixion. Let us delve into this concept, and walk one step more in our spiritual journey.
See you at Sunday’s Service,
Pastor Hae-Jeong
